1984- Part I

MUSE
UPRISING

Paranoia is in bloom,
The PR transmissions will resume,
They'll try to push drugs that keep us all dumbed down,
And hope that we will never see the truth around
(So come on)
Another promise, another scene,
Another packaged lie to keep us trapped in greed,
And all the green belts wrapped around our minds,
And endless red tape to keep the truth confined
(So come on)
They will not force us,
They will stop degrading us,
They will not control us,
We will be victorious
(So come on)

Interchanging mind control,
Come let the revolution take it's toll,
If you could flick a switch and open your third eye,
You'd see that
We should never be afraid to die
(So come on)
Rise up and take the power back,
It's time the fat cats had a heart attack,
You know that their time's coming to an end,
We have to unify and watch our flag ascend

They will not force us,
They will stop degrading us,
They will not control us,
We will be victorious
So come on
They will not force us,
They will stop degrading us,
They will not control us,
We will be victorious
Listen to the song.

    * humiliate = degrading
    * to develop, = flick a switch

2 The song is about what we ought to do because we are being manipulated by other people these people control our thoughts and the way we behave so we should do something about it, we should "uprised" and fight for what we believe
3 From my point of view the pronoun "they" refers to the people who are behind wars, religeons, and all the ways of manipulation
we will never know who are they because they do their things covering themselves behind other people's back.
4 Well, they materialize people's desires in something material like money or in abstract things like beauty etc... e,g everytime you turn on the TV you see a lot of commercials which tell you that having a big car means to be a good person or that you can buy happiness with money.
5 We should reveal and take the control of our own lives and made the fat cats had a heart attack xD
    6 Yes, a lot of things e.g
-And hope that we will never see the truth = The inner party with all its organisation has covered all the history with, lies in order to have total control of the present and the future
-If you could flick a switch and open your third eye = for me only few but very few people has developed the third eye for example we could say that Winston has 'cause he knows what is behind all lies he knows it.
-They will not force us = people are force to be expressionless, to hate in the Two Minutes Hate, not to have sex, not to enjoy life itself if they don't follow the rules they are vaporized.
-They will not control us = people are control by a large sum of ways like for example through the language, through their behaviour through the telescreen which controls every single movement people do.

  2. 1)_BLOOM: to develop
MIND CONTROL:to prevent people form thinking.
    DEGRADING:humiliate
2)_ The song refers to people that are against of those who are in the power...they start like a revolution and that is the meaning of the title...an act of opposition.
3)_In my opinion the pronoun "they" refers to the people who are in the power, greed and authoritarian people. They humiliated most of the people as we can see in 1984...everything was controlled by Big brother and only important people or members of the Inner party could enjoy some privileges.Everything existed for their benefit and they considered the "ordinary people" or the workers...as their slaves.
3)_They keep people under control through promises...they don't want people to see the reality, they are keep "dumbed down".They only show people material things and make them believe that an endless red tape will be better for them.
4)_ "we" need to wake up..to realize that they are controlling the minds. We need to take the power back in order to make "fat cats" stop to degrading us.
5)_The characteristics of the people's lives in this song is the same that the people in 1984.Big Brother controlled their feelings and every aspect of their lives. They controlled their thoughts, through propaganda and different slogans.
Also the song says that they will never see the truth...Big Brother made people believe that their lives in those days were better than the days before the revolution...They could not realize that thay were not free.
They were also "fat cats"...with georgeous houses and many servants and they degraded other people.
Finally, the song encourage people to take the power back and that was Winston's purpose. He believed that if there was any hope it laid in the proles.

To start again: to come back to, to replay, to retry
to prevent people from thinking: to manipulate
in want of: want sth (in want of is formal)
    humiliate: degrading

    2) The song is about the "uprising power", it could be a group of people who had been manipulated for a long time and they're tired of being controlled, persecuted and silent, and now they're planning a big change in order to stop that kind of control and start a new and better life.

    3) For me, the pronoun "they" refers to the people who had been manipulating the population, the "big fish" or "fat cat".

    4) To keep people under control, "they" drug people: making promises, lying to them. They keep people blind because they didn't want them to see the truth.

    5) We shoud be curious; because that makes us keep informed, updated. We shoud be critical people and try to have different points of view. When we don't have a own point of view, some people can control us. We shouldn't be ignorants.

♪ ♫They will not force us♪ ♫ People was afraid all the time, they were watched and followed by the thought police and their children(who were spies). IF WE TAKE THIS INTO ACCOUNT WE CAN SAY THAT THIS SONG CAN BE TAKEN AS AN ACT OF REBELLION AGAINST THE PASSIVENESS OF PEOPLE AGAINST THE DEEDS OF THE POWERFUL PEOPLE (GOVERNMENT, RICH PEOPLE, CAPITALIST AND MASS MEDIA) WHO ALWAYS TRY TO MANIPULATE COMMON PEOPLE, IN ORDER TO REACH THEIR GOALS.
NOT ONLY DOES THIS SONG MEANS A NEED OF REBELLION, BUT ALSO THE NEED TO SPEAK UP, TO BE LISTENED TO.

WE CAN SEE A COMPLETE CONNECTION BETWEEN THE SONG AND THE NOVEL.

IN THE NOVEL ALL PEOPLE WERE BEING MANIPULATED BY THE INNER PARTY ... AND SOME FEEL THE NEED TO UPRISE, AS WINSTON DID, JUST BY SOMETHING SO SIMPLE AND COMPLEX AS WRITTING A DIARY .... JUST BY DARING TO THINK THE WORST SIN IN ALL SOCIETIES, IN ALL TIMES ....

*The title give us an idea about the song. The uprising of those who are oppressed by some kind of evil power who control and manipulate them in different situations of their lives.

*“They” refers to organizations in general . For instance the government, the school, the church, etc. have ideas o theories about something in particular and they manipulated and make us believe that these ideas are the only truth.

They try to push drugs which effect is keeping dumbed down, that means that they give us drugs in order to keep the people calm and prevent them to think about how and why they are controlling us. They also lie about their real purpose of their ideas.

We should rise up against those who want to control us and take the power back, because people is the one who have the power to choose what we want, government or organizations are just representative of us.

There are many links with 1984. For instance, drugs in the song represent the gin that the Party gave to people. Another connection is the lies that the party told to the people, and the way they controlled to all the people to find if they were traitors. The endless red tape represent all the Ministers that hide the truth about what happened in the state.

    2) From my point of view this song expresses people's thought, it is a protest against the government and everyone who takes part in it. As the tittle itself says "UPRISING" means a rebellion and are those people who want it. They want to be free in order to do whatever they want without being control by anybody.

    3) I considered that the pronoun "THEY" refers to those poweful, despot and manipulator people from the government.

4)To keep people under control they manipulate them, they try to hide the reality and the true life. They also satisfy them trough material things and fake promises which never come true.

The song is about people that had been controlled and oppressed for other powerful people. They have manipulated and kept them under their control in order to make them think and behave as they want them to. But now the oppressed people have changed, they don't want to be controlled anymore so they want to star an uprising.

I believe that the pronoun THEY refers to people that have power and authority to manipulate other people.

To keep people under control, they are pushing drugs to keep them all dumbed down . They are lying them by making false promises and also confining the truth and controlling their minds.

We should rise up and take the power back because there is no need for someone to control us because we are human beings, rational people so we can think and decide what we really want to our lives.

There are many connections with 1984, for instance:
    * We will never see the truth around: the Ministry of Truth was in charge of changing all the history and the dates according to their needs because if they control the past they also control the present and the future.
*Interchanging mind control: Big Brother controlled everything. People couldn't have a different point of view, they all had to agree and follow the rules of BIG BROTHER and if they didn't do that they would be vaporized.

    2) In our opinion (Agustina and me)this song expressed how the society can live under the pressure of the government. They manipulated all the time and they can't expressed their thoughts so as the title said: "uprising" they wanted to change the situation because they have to be free to expresse whatever they want.

    3) "they" refer to the government or the state that controlled all the society.

"They will not control us" it refers people or the society who are controled by different ways like through the language or the telescreen which controls every movement people do.
